Big South Conference Women's Tournament Bracket

Charlotte, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men’s tennis team finished the season with an 8-0 Big South record and was named the Big South Men’s Tennis Regular-Season Champion, it was determined by the Conference.  The Chanticleers earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Big South Men’s Tennis Championship, which will be contested at the Winthrop Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Chanticleer men, led by head coach Chris Powers, will play in the first quarterfinal match on Thursday, April 18 at 8 a.m. against the winner of the UNC Asheville/Longwood match that will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Coastal defeated UNC Asheville 5-2, and Longwood 6-1, when the teams met earlier in the season.

Campbell earned the No. 2 seed with a 6-2 Conference mark. Presbyterian College and Winthrop finished Big South play with identical 5-3 records.  In the tiebreaker procedure, the Blue Hose claimed the No. 3 spot and the Eagles took the No. 4 seed.  Radford’s 4-4 record in League play was good for the No. 5 seed.  Gardner-Webb and Liberty finished Big South competition with 3-5 records, but with the tiebreaker procedure, the Runnin’ Bulldogs earned the No. 6 position and the Flames landed the No. 7 spot.  UNC Asheville picked up the No. 8 seed as it finished with a 2-6 League record, while new Big South member Longwood rounds out the seeding with its 0-8 record against Conference opponents.

On the women’s side, Coastal Carolina earned the fifth seed in the tournament with a 5-4 record, and will play a quarterfinal match on Thursday against fourth-seeded Liberty. The Catherine Hewitt led Chants will have a chance to avenge a 6-1 loss suffered to the Flames earlier this season.

In the women’s standings, Winthrop claimed the top seed with a 9-0 Conference record. Charleston Southern finished second with an 8-1 record and earned the No. 2 seed.  Campbell and Liberty finished Conference play with identical 6-3 records, but in the tiebreaker procedure the Fighting Camels claimed the No. 3 seed and the Lady Flames landed the No. 4 spot. UNC Asheville garnered the No. 6 slot with a 4-5 Conference mark.  Both Radford and Gardner-Webb finished the Big South season with a 3-6 record, but the tiebreaker procedure puts the Highlanders in the No. 7 spot and the Runnin’ Bulldogs land the No. 8 seed.  New Big South member Longwood claimed the No. 9 seed with a 1-8 mark, and Presbyterian College’s 0-9 record was good for the No. 10 position.

The 2013 Big South Tennis Championships begin Wednesday, April 17, and conclude with the men’s and women’s Championship matches on Saturday, April 20 in Rock Hill, S.C.  The Big South’s tournament champions receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tennis Tournaments.  The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
