Men's Tennis Takes Doubles Point, But Falls to Winthrop 4-1 in Big South Tournament

CONWAY , S.C.– The eighth-seeded Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team took the doubles point against top-seeded Winthrop University, but the Eagles took the next four singles points in defeating the Chants 4-1 April 15 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Men’s Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C.

In the doubles action, freshman Richard Redding and sophomore Florentin Meynie defeated Clayton Almeida and Michal Kwiecien 8-6 in the number one doubles. The Chants clinched the point when freshmen Simon Taylor and Andy Caress defeated Adam Narczewski and Thiago Barbosa 8-5.

Winthrop came back in the singles. Almeida defeated Redding 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles. Jorge Padilla defeated Caress 6-4, 6-2. Gary Kilduff defeated Taylor 6-4, 6-4 and Barbosa beat sophomore Brian Dowis 6-0, 6-0.

The Coastal women’s tennis team faces seventh-seeded Radford today at 2 p.m.
