Men's Tennis Falls to #1 Winthrop 4-0 in the Big South Tournament

The eighth-seeded Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team (8-16) fell to top-seeded Winthrop University 4-0 in the opening round of the Big South Men’s Tennis Championships April 14 in Rock Hill, S.C.

Coastal lost the doubles point, but junior Florentin Meynie (Nanterre, France) and sophomore Richard Redding (Winscombe, England) defeated Clayton Almeida and Rodrigo Santos 8-6.

Only three of the singles matches were completed. Redding fell to Alejandro Portugal 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Ryan Weisband (Pittsburgh, Pa.) lost to Thiago Barbosa 6-1, 6-2 and sophomore Ryan Vrba (Algonquin, Ill.) fell to Vinicius Bortolatto 6-2, 6-0.

Coastal ends its season with more wins this year (8) than the two previous seasons combined.
