Dowis Wins Big South Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Junior Brian Dowis (Yorktown, Va.) was named the Big South Conference Men’s Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the annual awards banquet in Rock Hill, S.C. tonight (April 13).

Dowis made the Big South All-Academic Team for the second season in a row. He has a 3.922 grade-point-average in math. This is the sixth Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award for Coastal men’s tennis and the third in four years. Arnaud Caffin won the award in 2002 and 2003.

Dowis had a 7-9 record singles record this spring at the number five and six singles slots. He was 1-2 in the Big South, defeating Victor Rios of Liberty 6-3, 6-3.

Coastal, the eighth seed, faces top-seeded Winthrop Thursday, April 14 at 9 a.m. in the Big South Tournament Quarterfinals.
