Men's Tennis Falls Short Against Wofford 4-3

Chanticleers Fall to 14-9 on the Season

CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team lost on Thursday afternoon in a close match against Wofford 4-3 on Billy Nichols Tennis Center.  Senior Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) picked up his 15th singles win in the loss. 

The Chanticleers won the doubles point against the Terriers winning both first and third doubles.  The number one doubles team of Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen Mary's College) and Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) defeated Wofford's number one duo of Andrew Stubbs and Alex Fridzon 9-7.  The Terrier team of Richard Cahi and George Kernoodle then defeated Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Redding 9-7 before David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) defeated Jeff Muthig and Scott Collins 8-6 to put Coastal ahead.

In Singles action, Coastal got wins from its third and fourth spot while Wofford won the remaining.  At number one singles, Taylor was defeated by Stubbs 6-4, 6-2 and at second singles Mellis fell to Kernoodle 6-1, 6-2.  Tzvetkov then defeated Collins 6-2, 6-1 and Redding took down Fridzon 6-3, 6-4 before Withers dropped to Cahi 6-3, 6-4.  Wofford picked up the win off of Christopher Williams defeat of Caress in a close three-set match  3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The Chanticleers fall to 14-9 on the season while Wofford improves to 11-6.  Coastal will be back in action after a six day break when they host conference rival Charleston Southern on Senior Day when head coach Chris Powers will honor his four seniors (Caress, Taylor, Redding and Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Cheam (Colorado))).  That match is set to start at 2 p.m.
