Schneider Named Player of the Week; Elon Match Moved to Saturday
CONWAY - The Sun Belt Conference announced Wednesday that Coastal Carolina senior Sebastian Schneider is the league’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. It was also announced Wednesday that Coastal’s match at Elon, originally scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, has been moved to 10 a.m. on Saturday due to the upcoming weather forecast.
Schneider is the team’s first student-athlete to win a Sun Belt a weekly award this season.
The Stockholm, Sweden native played a key role in helping Coastal come from behind to defeat East Carolina, 4-3, this past Saturday.
With the doubles point evened, Schneider and Zak Talic outlasted ECU’s second pairing 7-5 to give Coastal a point advantage to start the match.
The Chants trailed later in the match after surrendering three singles points, but Coastal eventually managed to even the score at 3-3. The deciding point came down to the third singles court, where Schneider split the opening two sets with Vlad Anghel before taking the third set 6-2 to give Coastal the win.
Schneider and the Chants carry a three-match winning streak in Saturday’s match against the Phoenix.
