FARMVILLE, VA.- The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team fell to Longwood University (5-5) to drop to 13-7 on the season with a score of 5-2. Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) picked up the two wins for the Chanticleers.
The Lancers won the doubles point despite the number one team of Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen Mary's College) defeated Longwood's Carlos Garcia de Andoain and David Cardoso 8-6. Longwood them won the next two doubles matches first the duo of Billy Heird and Brandon Lindsley beat Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Redding 8-6 while Rashko Patnikov and Mani Barajas-Alexander barely squeezed by Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Cheam (Colorado)) and David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) 9-7.
In singles action, Garcia de Andoain beat Mellis 6-0, 7-6 in the number one position while Cardoso battled with Taylor but picked up the three set win 7-6, 7-6, 6-3. Redding took down Patnikov in the third slot 6-4, 6-3 before Quibell fell to Lindsley 6-4, 6-0. Withers then defeated Barajas-Alexander in a tough three set match 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 while Caress was defeated by Heird 7-5, 6-2.
The Chanticleers are back in action on Friday in Lynchburg, Va as they take on Liberty University at 2 p.m.
