NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina's men's tennis team fell to Charleston Southern 6-1 at the CSU Tennis Courts Thursday, March 20.
Coastal's (7-9, 1-2 Big South) only win in the doubles competition came at No. 3 doubles as the Buccaneers (9-7, 2-2 Big South) claimed the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Freshman John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) and junior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) topped Murat Atilla and Luis Manselli 9-8 at No. 3 doubles. Meanwhile, Grega Teraz and Guy David had an 8-2 win over sophomores Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) and Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) at the No. 1 slot. Steven Dean and Chris Peek won at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory over sophomore Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201) and senior David Mellis (London, England/Goffs).
Vlaskin had CCU's lone singles victory as he downed David 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 in the No. 2 slot. Dean defeated Ramos 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Teraz beat Hairston 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot. Peek had a 6-1, 7-6 win over Mellis in the No. 4 slot, while Attilla defeated Tzvetkov 5-7, 6-1, 10-5 in the No. 5 slot. Maselli came away with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Withers at No. 6 singles.
Coastal Carolina returns to action Tuesday, March 25 at Davidson. Match time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
