Men's Tennis Swept 7-0 by No. 2 Ohio State

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina University men's tennis (7-8) team lost 7-0 to No. 2 Ohio State (16-1) Wednesday, March 19 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.

The Buckeyes won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Matt Allare and Mike O'Connell, ranked 25th-nationally in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), defeated sophomores Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Bryan Koniecko and Steven Moneke topped senior David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and sophomore Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201) 8-4 in the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, Shuhei Uzawa and Justin Kronauge had an 8-3 win over junior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and freshman John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach).

In the singles competition, 24th-ranked Koniecko defeated Ramos 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 slot, while 27th-ranked Moneke had a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hairston at No. 2 singles. Uzawa beat Mellis 7-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles and Balazs Novak topped freshman Carlo Checchia (Brasilia, Brazil/Galois) 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot. Allare had a 6-1, 6-3 win over Withers in the No. 5 slot and Ty Schaub won 6-1, 6-2 over freshman Omar El Bouzkouri (Meknes, Morocco/Schiller) at No. 6 singles.

Coastal returns to action Thursday, March 20 for its first of five straight road matches. The Chanticleers visit Charleston Southern with the match scheduled for 2 p.m.
