More Information:

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team defeated James Madison 5-1 Friday, March 13 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. The two squads did not play doubles because of the inclement weather but were able to get in all six singles matches on the day. Coastal Carolina improves to 11-2 overall and remain at 1-0 in the Big South.

Junior Plamen Tzvetkov cruised past JMU’s Mike Smith 6-3, 6-2 on court two, while classmate Ernesto Ramos took a 7-6, 6-4 victory from Tommi Nissinen at No. 3. At the No. 4 slot, junior Dmitry Vlaskin earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brian Rubenstein and senior Joseph Withers topped Yarolay Voznenko on court six 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Dorian Sovic dropped the first set 2-6 but battled back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to get past James Madison’s Ville Maaranen. Coastal Carolina dropped the point on court one as senior German Perez fell 7-5, 6-4 to James Madison’s Jared Robinson.

“I thought we responded well today considering how much energy we put on the court yesterday against Wake Forest,” Head Coach Chris Powers continued. “It will be good to get some rest tomorrow so we can come out fresh Sunday against East Carolina.”

Coastal Carolina will host East Carolina Sunday, March 11 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. Matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
