Velickovic, Scott Sweep Player of the Week Honors
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Vuk Velickovic has been named the Big South Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and Libby Scott has been named the Big South Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, for matches played Feb. 22-28, the league announced Wednesday.
It is the third time this season, and second consecutive week, that two Chanticleers have swept the conference’s male and female weekly awards. It is also the second time this season that Scott has been named the women’s POW.
Velickovic, paired with Pedro Leme, won a pair of No. 1 doubles matches, and added a No. 2 singles victory as the Chanticleer men split a pair of matches last week. Coastal fell 4-0 at #54 Duke on Saturday, though Velickovic and Leme took a 6-4 win over the top pair of the nationally ranked Blue Devils. The Coastal duo added a 6-2 win on the top doubles court on Sunday, and Velickovic’s No. 2 singles win helped lead the Chants to a 6-1 victory over East Carolina at home.
The Coastal men won’t play again until March 10, when they host UNC Greensboro for a 1 p.m. match at the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
Scott posted a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles as the senior led Coastal to a pair of wins last week, including a 6-1 victory in the Chants’ conference opener at Gardner-Webb. Both of Scott’s singles wins came in straight sets at No. 1. Her pair of doubles victories likewise came on the top court, including a 6-0 blanking of Charlotte’s top duo as the Chants held the 49er’s pointless in a 7-0 match. Scott was paired with sophomore Sara Bondar in each doubles match.
The Chanticleer women wrap up a three-match road swing on Friday as Coastal heads to Longwood for its second Big South match of the season. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
