FARMVILLE, VA. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team extended its win streak to nine with a 6-1 victory over Longwood Thursday, Feb. 26 at Lancer Courts. The Chanticleers swept through doubles play and then won five matches in singles to remain undefeated this season, earning their ninth-straight victory.

“Overall we had a solid team performance today,” Head Coach Chris Powers continued. “We played a strong doubles game and I give the guys credit for a good few days of practice this week.”

Senior German Perez (Valencia, Spain/Collegio Helios (UALR) and junior Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) downed Longwood’s Billy Heird and Milo Barajas-Alexander 8-5 on court one. Juniors Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) defeated David Cardoso and Carlos Garcia de Andoain 8-4 at the No. 2 position, while senior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and sophomore John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) topped Brandon Lindsley and Nobu Tanaka 8-4 to sweep doubles.   At singles, the Chanticleers won the first match with Perez picking up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Garcia. Vlaskin earned his second victory of the year at the No. 2 slot with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph. Ramos played at No. 3 for the first time this year and dropped Longwood’s Cardoso 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Dorian Sovic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazisa (UALR)) came from behind to get a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over Heird at No. 5. Withers picked up his eighth-straight win at the No. 6 position cruising past Andres Lazarte 6-0, 6-4. The only loss of the day for the Chants came at the No. 4 spot, where Tzvetkov dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Tanaka.   The Chanticleers will put their nine-match winning streak on the line this weekend when No. 69 Radford comes to Conway.   “We are really excited to play Radford on our courts and I know they will be prepared for some great tennis,” Powers commented.   The Chanticleers were originally scheduled to play Liberty Friday, Feb. 27, but have postponed the match against the Flames until Saturday, April 11. Coastal Carolina welcomes defending Big South Champion Radford to Conway, S.C., Sunday, March 1 at 1 p.m.
