CONWAY, S.C.- The Men's tennis team received the first-ever Linda Vereen Academic Excellence Award at the CCU/Time Warner Academic Awards Banquet on Thursday, February 22.  The award honors the team with the best overall GPA for the previous season.

Head Coach Chris Powers and his 2005-06 team combined for a 3.85 overall GPA, this marks the second academic award received by the team. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently announced in August that the Coastal Carolina University men's tennis team has been named to the 2006 ITA All-Academic Team for the sixth year in a row.  All eight players were also named as ITA Scholar Athletes.

"I was please to accept this award on behalf of the men's tennis team," Powers commented.  "The guys are very committed in the classroom and I know that they're proud of this award.  I'm honored to coach such a successful group of scholar-athletes."
