Men's Tennis Falls to East Carolina 6-1

More Information:

Sophomore Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio) won his singles match, but the Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team (4-4) fell to East Carolina University (5-6) 6-1 Feb. 22, in Greenville, N.C.

Caress defeated Robert Stasch 6-1, 6-2, at number-six singles, but the Pirates took the other five matches in straight sets. Junior Florentin Meynie (Nanterre, France) took Henrique Viana to the limit in both sets, but fell 7-5, 7-5.

In doubles action, sophomore Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England) and freshman David Mellis (London, England) lost 8-5 to Paulo Baumer and Nick Rose at number-one doubles.

"East Carolina played very well and we need a complete team effort to defeat a program at this level," Coastal head coach Chris Powers said.  "It didn't happen today.  As a coach, this is one you want to put behind you quickly."

Coastal returns to the Billy Nichols Tennis Center Saturday, Feb. 26, to face Gardner-Webb University. The match begins at 2 p.m.
