AUGUSTA, GA. – The Coastal Carolina University men's tennis team played to its second-straight sweep, cruising past Mercer 7-0 Thursday, Feb. 12 in Augusta, Ga. The Chanticleers improved to 5-0 this season with the win, while Mercer dropped to 1-1 overall.

With both teams fighting to stay undefeated on the year, Coastal Carolina looked to set the tone of the match in doubles action as junior Ernesto Ramos (Tampico, Mexico/Instituto Andes (Jacksonville)) and senior German Perez (Valencia, Spain/Collegio Helios (UALR) paired up at No. 1 and grabbed an 8-4 victory over Mercer's Dave Barton and Victor Dias. Juniors Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Dmitry Vlaskin (Moscow, Russia/Moscow 1201 (Arkansas)) defeated the Bears' tandem of Chapman Mitchell and Justin Wimpee 8-2. At the No. 3 spot, senior Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) and sophomore John Hairston (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) blew past Matthew Poleon and Mark Worsham 8-1.

After securing the doubles point, the Chanticleers were eager to get singles play underway and earned five straight-set victories from Perez, Ramos, Withers, Tzvetkov and sophomore Dorian Sovic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazisa (UALR)). The only three-set match of the day came at the No. 3 slot where Vlaskin grabbed the first set 6-3 over Mercer's Poleon, but dropped the second set 2-6. Vlaskin rallied back with a 10-3 win in the tiebreaker.

Coastal Carolina will head to Statesboro, Ga., Friday, Feb. 13 for its second match in the Peach State against Georgia Southern. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
