CONWAY, S.C. –The Coastal Carolina men’s tennis team (3-1) won its third straight match with a 7-0 victory over Coker College Feb. 10 in Conway, S.C. The Chanticleers won all six singles matches in straight sets and took the doubles point with three victories.

Sophomore David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) won at number-one singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Matt Byford. Junior Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Colorado) defeated Duncan Grew 6-2, 6-0 at number-two singles. Juniors Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen’s Mary College) and Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) won at the third and fourth singles, respectively. Taylor defeated Tim Morton 6-1, 6-2 and Caress beat Danny Nash 6-0, 6-2. Junior Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital) defeated Tyson Thompson 6-1, 6-1, while sophomore Ryan Weisband (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) beat Hunter Batts 6-1, 6-0.

In the doubles, Redding and Quibell won in the number-one slot, 8-2, over Byford and Grew. Taylor and Caress beat Dustin Yager and Nash 8-1, while Mellis and senior Brian Dowis (Yorktown, Va./York) won by a matching 8-1 score over Morton and Thompson.

"It is always fun to play under the lights, but tonight was great with softball and baseball competing at the same time." Coastal head coach Chris Powers said. "The guys played with solid focus and hopefully this win will prepare us for Francis Marion tomorrow. That one should be a dog fight."

Coastal hosts Francis Marion Feb. 11 at 2 p.m., at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
