More Information:

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis team defeated Wofford and Mt. Olive at Community Day on the Clay Saturday, Feb. 7 at Prestwick Tennis Center. The Chanticleers topped Wofford 6-1 in the morning and followed it up with a 7-0 win over Mt. Olive in the afternoon. With the two victories, the Chanticleers improve to 4-0 on the year.   Coastal Carolina began the day by securing the doubles point with two victories as senior German Perez and junior Ernesto Ramos defeated Danny Manlow and Stuart Robertson at the No. 1 spot. The Chants then split the next two slots as senior Joseph Withers and partner John Hairston earned an 8-4 win at No. 3, but juniors Dmitry Vlaskin and Plamen Tzvetkov dropped an 8-6 decision to Wofford’s Paul Bartholomy and Alan Donald.   The Chants would then grab five more victories in singles action as Perez, Ramos, Vlaskin, Withers and sophomore Dorian Sovic each won their match.    “Wofford never quit,” Head Coach Chris Powers stated after the matches. “I think we did a nice job responding to their energy and team spirit.”   The Chants would take a break before getting back on the court with Mt. Olive and it was all Coastal Carolina from the start. Perez and Ramos earned their second doubles win of the day cruising past Murilo Pelligrino and Fredrico Barros 8-1 at No. 1. Tzvetkov and Vlaskin blanked Alexandre Queiros and Diogo Sender 8-0 at No. 2 and Sovic and sophomore Carlo Checchia teamed up at No. 3 for an 8-2 victory over Diogo Miranda and Daniel Mosteanu. All six singles matches were straight set victories for the Chants with the closest match coming at the No. 2 slot where Ramos edged out Mt. Olive’s Fredrico Barros  6-4, 6-3.   “We played two well coached teams today,” Powers continued. “I like our progress so far but we still need to work on finishing matches especially in doubles. We have some big matches coming up so we need to maintain a good standard on the practice court this week.”   The Chanticleers travel to Georgia for a two-match road trip starting with Mercer Thursday, Feb. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
