CONWAY - Coastal Carolina sophomore Leo Christofides has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Jan. 23-29, announced today by the league office.

Christofides finished the week 2-0 in singles play at the No. 2 position while helping the Chanticleers to wins over The Citadel and Mercer. Against The Citadel on Saturday, the Nicosia, Cyprus, native helped Coastal Carolina to a 6-1 win defeating his opponent in straight sets (7-5, 6-2). The following day against Mercer he defeated David Barton, 6-2, 6-2 as the Chants moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over the Bears.

"Leo has really stepped up his game this year," said head men's tennis coach Chris Powers. "He has really matured as a player, and I think he is starting to fully understand the level of focus and intensity needed to play successful college tennis."

The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will face nationally ranked UNC Wilmington on Friday at 1 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
