CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men’s tennis head coach Chris Powers announced Tuesday that seniors Alex Funkhouser and Matt Gordon have been selected as team captains for the 2011 season.
Funkhouser turned in a 17-4 overall record in singles last season and was 6-2 inside the Big South Conference. The Winchester, Va., native was also owned a 13-9 record in double a season ago.
Gordon finished last season 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the Big South in singles en route to All-Big South Conference Team accolades. Gordon was also 12-9 in doubles and helped the Chants win 58.5 percent of their matches.
Funkhouser and Gordon helped Coastal finish 14-8 and 4-2 in the Big South en route to an appearance in the semifinals of the Big South Tournament. The duo also played an instrumental role in the Chants’ first Carolina Regional team ranking in school history.
Both Funkhouser and Gordon are also members of SAAC.
“I am really excited about our squad for the spring season,” Powers said. “Matt and Alex have earned these titles, and I expect them to be active leaders in our program on and off the court.”
