CONWAY, S.C. -- Coastal Carolina University's men's tennis Head Coach Chris Powers has announced the 2008 spring schedule. The Chanticleers are slated to play 15 of their 23 regular season matches in Conway.
"We've got a schedule in place to build on our success from the past two seasons," Powers said. "It is a full slate, but our program is deeper and I feel it will generate playing time for the whole team. I'm very excited that we are hosting national powerhouse Ohio State just prior to kicking off the bulk of Big South play."
CCU begins the season by hosting five consecutive matches. The season starts with Doubleheader Day on the Clay against Mount Olive on Sat., Feb. 2 at Riverfront in Conway, S.C. The Chants then welcome Queens University of Charlotte (Feb. 5), Winston-Salem State (Feb. 9) and Campbell (Feb. 9) to the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
Coastal plays at both Wofford (Feb. 12) and UNC Wilmington (Feb. 14) before returning home for four straight matches. The Chants host Tennessee Tech on Feb. 15 and then open Big South Conference action against defending Big South champion Radford Feb. 17. The homestand concludes with Gardner-Webb (Feb. 23) and Liberty (Feb. 24).
The Chants travel to Richmond (Feb. 29) and then East Carolina (March 1) before opening another four-match homestand. Davidson (March 6), James Madison (March 8) and Boston University (March 9) all make the trip to Conway. Coastal then has a nine-day break in between matches before taking on Ohio State on March 19.
Most of Coastal's Big South schedule will be played on the road March 20-April 5. The Chants are at Charleston Southern March 20 and then at High Point March 29. CCU visit UNC Asheville April 4 and then concludes Big South play at Winthrop (April 5).
The Chants will host their final two regular season matches. The Citadel visits Billy Nichols Tennis Center April 8. Coastal end the regular season against future Big South opponent Presbyterian on April 14.
