Men's Tennis Eliminated at ITA Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Coastal Carolina men's tennis players Leo Christofides and Matias Di Pasquale advanced to the round of 64 at the 2011 ITA Carolinas Regional. Di Pasquale defeated Ryan Miller of Furman 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in his opening round match. He was ousted by Fred Saba of Duke 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 64. Saba has since advanced to the quarterfinals after knocking of his ensuing opponents in straight sets. Christofides beat Pierre Vernin of USC Upstate 6-0, 6-4 but was knocked off by Clemson's Gerardo Meza 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Yusuke Kusuda was defeated in his opening round match 6-4, 6-4 against Torsten Wietoska of Duke. Blue Devils Cale Hammond topped John Karle 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 128. The doubles team of Di Pasquale and Kusuda were beat 8-6 by Rafael Berghaus and Grayson Mills of Big South Conference foe Presbyterian College. The ITA Carolinas Regional ends the fall portion of the Chanticleer's schedule. Coastal opens the 2012 campaign against The Citadel Bulldogs in Charleston, S.C. on January 28th. |
