Elon Fall Invitational Day One Results
ELON, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team began the Elon Fall Invitational on Friday with a 10-6 overall record, going 5-3 in both doubles and singles. Five chants advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles flights, while two doubles pairings reached the championship match of their respective doubles flights. Action from the Elon Fall Invitational continues on Saturday.
Luiz Faria advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 win over NC Central's Gabriel Cucalon in the first round.
Gonzalez Achondo advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-3, win over East Carolina's Vlad Anghel in the first round.
Lawrence Perrin fell in straight sets to Clemson's Beau Pelietler in the first round.
Zak Talic defeated UNCG's Jack Burkill, 6-1, 6-3, in the opening round to advance to the quarterfinals. Francesco Cori-Gamero likewise advanced, defeating Charlotte's Alec Angraddi, 6-3, 6-1.
Paul Boulay suffered a straight-sets loss to Elon's Louis Rico in the first round.
Juan Castellanos downed UNCG's Logan Blaser, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.
Harry Cohen fell to North Carolina A&T's Jorge Bartra.
Perrin and Faria advanced to the semifinals, defeating UNCG's Vidgren/Grew, but were bested by ECU's McGeehan/Countee prior to the championship match.
Talic and Boulay advanced to the flight's championship, first defeating Thomas/Angraddi of Charlotte and then downing Paccini/Frankel of Elon, 8-2.
Cori-Gamero and Achondo were the second Coastal pairing to reach a flight championship. The two defeated pairs from Elon (8-5) and JMU (8-2).
Cohen and Castellanos fell in their opening match, and were also defeated in the back draw.
