Coastal Completes Day One of the East Carolina Invitational

Greenville, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team garnered six singles and four doubles wins on the first day of the East Carolina Invitational on Friday afternoon. 

Philippe Tsangarides and Ted Nilsson both won their singles matches in the Gold Pod. Tsangarides downed Navy's Blake Daniel 6-2, 6-3 and Nilsson dispatched Richmond's Alex Hahn 6-1, 6-1. 

In the Pirate Pod, transfer Rick Timmerman won 6-3, 6-2 over Navy's Alex Gaines and Renan Samed won in straight sets over Richmond's Jonathan Quenard, 6-0, 6-3. 

In the final singles pod, Coastal picked up two more singles wins as Stefan Jakubov downed Navy's Jacob Darrah 6-4, 6-2 and Hunter Whalen won out 6-0, 6-3 over Richmond's Noah Fenton. 

In doubles action, all four Coastal pairs were able to tally wins. Tsangarides and Leo Christofides beat out Navy's pair, 8-2 in the Purple Pod. Also in the Purple Pod, Garik Yedigarian and Nilsson downed Richmond's pair 8-5. 

In the Gold Pod, Samen and Timmerman outdueled Navy's pair 8-6, and Whalen and Jakubov won a hard-fought match over Richmond's pair, 8-5. 

Day two action of the East Carolina Invitational will continue on Saturday with eight more singles and four more doubles matches.
