Chanticleers Go Unbeaten in First Day at Elon Invitational

Sept. 21, 2012

CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's tennis team did not drop a single set as they went unbeaten in the first day of competition at the Elon Fall Invitational.

Led by 2012 Big South All-Conference Singles players Yusuke Kusuda and Matias Di Pasquale, the Chants went 8-0 in singles competition. Retuning players Leo Christofides, Sam Barr, John Karle and Garik Yedigarian posted victories in their first matches of the tournament, and newcomers Ted Nilsson and Hunter Whalen also contributed to Coastal's unbeaten day. All eight players will advance to the round of eight in their respective flights.

In doubles action, the CCU pairs of Kusuda/Nilsson, Yedigarian/Di Pasquale, Karle/Christofides and Whalen/Barr all won their first matches, but will have to wait until Sunday to face their next opponents.

"I have never seen this happen in a fall tournament," said ninth year head coach Chris Powers. "Today was a fantastic day one of a tournament. Our intensity was solid across the board. To not lose a set all day is quite an accomplishment for our program. Day two will be tougher but this was a great start."

Play will continue at the Elon Fall Invitational 9 a.m. Saturday. For more coverage of the Elon Fall Invitational, and to follow Coastal Carolina tennis all season, visit
