Rock Hill, S.C. - In its first championship appearance since 1996, the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team overmatched Presbyterian College 4-1 on Saturday afternoon to be named the 2013 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Champions. It is the Chanticleers' first title since 1994 and the first under the direction of head coach Chris Powers

Coastal tabbed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.  The Chanticleer duo of John Karle and Leo Christofides defeated Presbyterian's Rafael Berghaus and Garyson Mills, 8-6 at No. 2, while Coastal's Ted Nilsson and Yusuke Kusuda downed Danny Bruce and Edward Snead IV, 8-3 at No. 3.  When play concluded, Coastal's Garik Yedigarian and Matias Di Pasquale and PC's Andrew Brigham and William O'Connell were tied 5-5 at No. 1.

Presbyterian tied at the match at 1-1 at the start of singles play, receiving a win at No. 1 from Mills over Christofides.

The Chants would tally the next three points however, and secure the match.

Di Pasquale gave Coastal a 2-1 cushion after handing a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Brigham at No. 4. Nilsson followed up at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Bruce. Yedigarian closed out the match for the Chants at No. 3 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Berghaus.

"I'm speechless.  I can't believe we had the run that we did this year," said head coach Chris Powers. "After a slow start to the season, we had this meeting where we came together and set some goals. We did not lose a match since that point. The guys just started believing. It's not the most talented team I've ever had, but definitely the most heart of any team I've ever been a part of as a coach."

The Chanticleers, who secured the Big South's automatic bid, will carry a 15-5 record and nine-match winning streak into the NCAA Championships.
