Coastal Carolina University men’s tennis fell at Winthrop 6-1 on Saturday afternoon, April 10 in Rock Hill, S.C. The Chanticleers fell to 12-7 overall and 3-2 in the Big South, while the Eagles improved to 8-11 and 4-1 in the league.

The Chanticleers lost in No. 1 and 2 doubles, giving up the doubles point. The only successful doubles team was senior Plamen Tzvetkov and junior Dorian Sovic in the No. 3 position, 8-6 over Dejon Bivens and Moras Preetham.

Coastal could not recover as they lost five out of the six matches in singles, losing three, tie-breaking matches. In No. 2 singles, senior Dmitry Vlaskin was defeated by Liran Levy 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. In the No. 3 position, junior Alex Funkhouser was dopped by Dejon Biven, 0-6, 6-1, 7-6, and Tzvetkov was topped by Guy Kubi 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 in No. 4 singles. The Chanticleers only point of the day came from junior Matt Gordon in No. 1 singles, who battled in three-straight sets to defeat Nadav Ruppin 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Men’s tennis will end the regular season on Tuesday, April 13 at home as the Chanticleers celebrate senior day against Presbyterian at 1 p.m.
