Men's Tennis Continues Conference Win Streak Over UNCA

Asheville, N.C. - The Chanticleers earned five singles points as the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team defeated UNC Asheville 5-2 Friday afternoon to stay undefeated in Big South play this season. 

With the win, the Chants hold a 7-5 overall record and a 4-0 Big South record. UNC Asheville meanwhile drops to 7-6 (1-2). 

UNC Asheville took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. The Bulldogs received wins from the No. 1 pair of Adiren Langeard and Matt Waissen as well as the No. 3 pair of Brett Landau and Alex Croker. Coastal's No. 2 pair of John Karle and Leo Christofides took an 8-4 over Daniel Kripak and John Schubel.

The Chants then battled back in singles, winning five of the six matches to take a 5-2 win.

Yusuke Kusuda defeated Waissen in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Garik Yedigarian ousted Kripak at No. 3 6-2, 6-2. Matias Di Pasquale downed Croker 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4. Ted Nilsson won the fifth position 6-2, 6-2 over Schubel and Hunter Whalen rounded out singles play with 6-4, 6-4 decision over Brett Landau. 

The Chants will return to action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they host Big South rival Campbell.
