The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team fought hard in the program's first NCAA appearance, but ninth-ranked Duke lived up to its national ranking as the Blue Devils took a 4-0 win over the Chanticleers Friday afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
The Coastal Carolina Department of Athletics will hold a short sendoff event for the men's tennis team at the Beaty Memorial Victory Bell on Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m. The Chanticleers will then board their bus and begin their journey to the NCAA Regional in Durham, N.C. hosted by Duke University.
The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team earned its first NCAA Regional bid in the program's history on Tuesday as the Chanticleers were selected to the face the ninth-ranked Duke Blue Devils in the first round, which will be played on May 10 at the Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C.
In its first championship appearance since 1996, the Coastal Carolina men's tennis team overmatched Presbyterian College 4-1 on Saturday afternoon to be named the 2013 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Champions. It is the Chanticleers' first title since 1994 and the first under the direction of head coach Chris Powers.
