CONWAY, S.C. - Two Coastal Carolina men’s soccer players were named to the 2009 NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region team for their efforts this season, it was announced Thursday, December 10. Redshirt-senior midfielder Djamel Bekka was a Second Team selection, while junior defender Alex Russell was a Third Team selection.

Bekka captained the Chanticleers to their ninth Big South Regular Season Championship and was named the Big South Player of the Year. The Tulsa, Okla. native posted seven assists, two goals and 23 points in the 2009 season. He posted a multi-assist match with two helpers in Coastal Carolina's 2-1 win over Asheville on Oct. 31. Against Radford, Bekka scored a goal and assisted on another to give the Chants the 3-1 win over the Highlanders. He also assisted on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over VMI.

Russell led Coastal's defense to only allow one goal in two games played in the Big South Tournament and was selected to the All-Big South Tournament Team. The South Elgin, Ill., native was selected to the All-Big South First Team after leading a tough defense that never allowed more than one goal in a game in conference play. Russell earned All-Tournament honors in all three tournaments the Chanticleers participated in. Russell finished the 2009 season with one goal, one assist and five shots.
