Men's Soccer's Kevin Van Den Berg Named Third Team Academic All-America

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team's junior forward, Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville), was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Monday, November 20.

Van Den Berg is a double-major, majoring in both business management and finance, and has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.86. He was named to the 2006 Big South All-Academic Team and to the Dean's List in 2005. He is also a member of the Wall Fellows Program, an honors program for those majoring in business. He played in 19 games this past season at forward with 11 starts. He netted a total of seven goals, including his first-ever hat trick in the 3-2 Chanticleer victory over the College of Charleston on Oct. 3. He also collected two assists for Coastal.

The Chants finished the season with an overall record of 11-7-2 and a 6-3-0 Big South Conference finish after falling to High Point in the semifinals of the 2006 Big South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.
