Chants Set For NCAA Third Round Showdown At Maryland

CONWAY - For the only the second time in program history the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team is one of 16 teams left standing in the NCAA Tournament. The Chanticleers travel to College Park, Md., to take on the second-seeded Maryland Terrapins in the tournament's third round on Sunday at 5 p.m.

THE CHANTS AND THE TERRAPINS
Coastal Carolina and Maryland have met three previous times on the pitch with the Terrapins holding a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. Each contest of the series has been contested in College Park, Md. The then third-ranked Maryland claimed the most recent meeting 5-0 on Nov. 5, 2010. The sides exchanged 2-1 victories at the start of the series in 1987 and again in 1990.
COASTAL VS. THE ACC IN THE NCAA TOURNEY
Coastal's third round matchup against Maryland marks the eighth time the Chanticleers have squared off against an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Following its win at Wake Forest in the Second Round, Coastal is 2-4-1 all-time in the tournament against the ACC. In addition, Coastal has played an ACC member institution in each of its last seven NCAA Tournament appearances.
RECORD TYING WIN
The Chanticleers equaled the 2003 team for the all-time school and Big South record with its 20th win of the season at Wake Forest in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. In addition, the 2012 Chants also join the 2003 team as the only Coastal Carolina and Big South team to advance to the NCAA Tournament Round of 16.

With its 2-1 overtime win at Wake Forest on Sunday Coastal Carolina is on to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.
