Men's Soccer Eliminated From Big South Tournament Following 3-1 Loss to Radford

More Information:

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team, which allowed just two goals in six league regular season games, allowed three in the semifinal round of the Big South Conference Tournament as the top-seeded Chanticleers fell 3-1 to No. 4 seed Radford Friday afternoon, at Eagles Field on the campus of Winthrop. Freshman Ross Kelly (Sugarland, Texas/Clements) netted the Chanticleer’s lone goal.

With the loss, CCU is eliminated from the Big South Tournament as Radford advances to the finals for the sixth time in school history. The Highlanders outshot 12-5 and limited the Chants to just three shots on goal. The only other time CCU allowed three goals during the conference tournament came in 1998 when the Chants fell in a shootout to South Alabama after the teams were tied 3-3.

The Highlanders took an early 1-0 advantage after Davori Husadzinovich connected off a cross from James Leith in the 18th minute. Josh McCrary added to the Radford lead off a cross from Franklin Elimbi in the 33rd minute. The Highlanders took the 2-0 advantage into the locker room at the break.

Kelly put the Chants on the board in the 73rd minute after the ball was misplayed but the Highlander keeper to cut the lead to 2-1. Radford responded just over a minute later as Leith was successful on a one-on-one attempt with senior Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) for the contest’s final goal.

Weant recorded one save and Radford’s Zach Rozsel registered two saves.

The Chants finish the season with a 10-8-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 slate in league play to become just the fifth team in the history of the Big South to finish the regular season with a perfect conference record. The contest was the final game for seniors Lachlan Cahill (Kiama, Australia/Kiama), Kheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson)), Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla./St. John's County (Queen's University of Charlotte)), Patrick Robertson (Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands), Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) and Weant.
