#4 Men's Soccer Advances with Shutout of #5 Radford

ROCK HILL, SC — The fourth-seeded Coastal Carolina Chanticleers knocked off defending tournament champion and this year's number five seed Radford 1-0 in the second game of the Big South Conference men’s soccer championships on Thursday afternoon at Winthrop’s Eagle Field.

The Chanticleers (9-7-2) move on to the semifinal round for the first time since 1995, when they captured the tournament title. All-Big South player Joseph Ngwenya scored in the 24th minute for the only goal of the game. Ngwenya played a give-and-go with Mike Littlefield and slipped the ball by Highlander keeper Harper Thronsen, who ended the match with nine saves.

Coastal Carolina outshot the Highlanders 17-7. Radford (4-14) had won the last two Big South tournament titles, but with the loss today a new champion will be crowned in Sunday's championship game.

In the semi-finals on Friday, Coastal Carolina will face High Point at 3 p.m. The eighth-seeded Panthers advanced with a 2-0 win over the tourney's top seed UNC Asheville earlier in the day.
