13 Chants Named to Big South Men's Soccer All-Decade Team

Coastal's 13 All-Decade Team members led the Chanticleers to a combined 18 championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Eleven former Coastal Carolina men's soccer greats along with head coaches Paula Banta and Shaun Docking have been named to the inaugural Big South All-Decade teams. Part of the Big South's 30th anniversary celebration, the all-decade teams were determined by conference administrators and fan voting.

Banta garnered coach of the decade honors for the 1980. He led Coastal to a trio of Big South championships (1986-87-89) after the league formed in 1984. He posted an 82-42-4 overall record, including a 31-10-0 confernece mark in the 1980s. Banta was also named the Big South Coach of the Year in each of the championship seasons.

Docking was named the coach of the decade for the 2000s for his work in leading the Chanticleers to four Big South championships (2001-03-04-05) and five NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Round of 16 appearance in 2003. Docking compiled a 50-15-7 Big South record and a 126-62-18 overall mark from 2000-09. In addition he earned four conference Coach of the Year honors during the decade.

Hilmar Arnason, David Skulason, Claud Huggins and Sigurdur Sveinbjornsson earned all-decade honors for the 1980s as the quartet combined for 11 All-Big South awards. The Chants are represented on the 1990s team by midfielder Neil Payne and defender Guy Norcott, who became Coastal's first All-American in 1992. Joseph Ngwenya, Mubarike Chisoni, Boyzzz Khumalo, Tyler Hughes and Tobin Whitmarsh were named to the 2000s all-decade team. Ngwenya, Chisoni and Khumalo each earned All-American honors during their time in the Coastal teal and bronze.
