The Chanticleers (12-6-1) earned a first round home match based on their regular season body of work, winning both the Sun Belt regular season and tournament championships and posting an RPI of 23 thanks to recent road wins over #3 Maryland and #24 William and Mary.

Mercer (7-8-6) punched its ticket to the NCAA postseason by winning its second consecutive Southern Conference championship, defeating UNCG in a penalty shootout (1-1; 3-2 PK) at Stone Soccer Stadium in Greenville, N.C. The Bears entered the SoCon tournament as the fourth seed, and defeated #5 Wofford (2-1) and #1 ETSU (0-0; 4-3 PK) prior to edging the Spartans in the championship.

Coastal is 7-0 all-time versus Mercer. The schools last met in the 2005 season.

The Chanticleers will be making their eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 15th in school history. Head coach Shaun Docking has now led the Chants to the NCAA postseason 13 times with previous appearances in 2001, `02, `03, `04, `05, `10, '11, '12,`13, '14, '15 and '16 as well.

Thursday will mark the seventh straight and eighth overall time Coastal has hosted an NCAA Men's Soccer Championship match. The Chanticleers are 7-0 all-time when hosting an NCAA Men's Soccer Championship match.

Thursday's winner will travel to eighth-seeded Clemson on Sunday, Nov. 19. Coastal is 2-9-2 all-time against the Tigers. The last meeting between the schools in 2016 was won by Clemson.
