Men's Soccer Overpowers Bridgewater, 6-1, in Regular Season Finale

CONWAY, S.C. – Boyzzz Khumalo and Peter Louis each scored twice as the 10th-ranked Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team defeated Bridgewater, 6-1, in its last match of the 2003 regular season. Coastal advances to 15-2-0 on the season and the Eagles fall to 12-7-0 with the loss.

The Chants netted four goals in the first period of the match, all within a 16-minute time frame. Mubarike Chisoni was the first to score as he headed a cross from Bobby Zimmer into the net at the 24-minute mark. Khumalo would then net his two goals in the 28th and 33rd minutes, the first off an assist from Jordie Hughes and the second from Hughes and Zimmer.

Seven minutes later, Peter Louis would find the back of the net for his first goal of the season courtesy of an assist from Chisoni, and CCU would take the 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

Michael Smith opened up the scoring in the second period as he recorded his first collegiate goal on a give-and-go from Louis at the 61-minute mark, and Louis would score again 12 minutes later, unassisted, on a breakaway down the center of the field.

Matt Brock finally got the Eagles on the board with 4:38 left on the clock to wrap up the game’s scoring.

Brock and Jonathan Williamson recorded two shots apiece for Bridgewater, and Chisoni led the Chants with five shots. Coastal outshot the Eagles, 27-6 overall and 16-3 on goal.

Three Coastal keepers saw net time, with Andrew Paxton playing the entire first half and recording one save. Eric Quimby also recorded a save in his 29 minutes, and Mark Lenahan played the remainder of the match. Jon Boller and Mitch Hamersley split time in the net for Bridgewater, with Boller recording four saves and Hamersley grabbing six.

The Chanticleers begin post-season play this week as they travel to Radford, Va. for the Big South Men’s Soccer Tournament, Nov. 12-16. Coastal will enter the tournament as the number one seed, having already clinched the regular season title. The tournament’s pairings will be determined once all of conference play has wrapped up.
