Coastal Carolina mens soccer team (10-6-1, 4-3 Big South) will be the second seed in next weeks Big South Conference Tournament to be held in Birmingham, Ala. the league announced today, November 4.
CCU had control of its own destiny going into last nights game against High Point University, and they took full advantage, defeating HPU, 5-0. The win allowed Coastal to finish the season with a 4-3 record in conference play, which tied them with Winthrop and Liberty, who also boast the same conference record. The Chanticleers earned the second seed by virtue of tie-breaking wins over both the other schools, and will play against the seventh-seeded VMI on Thursday, November 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Coastal is led by the dangerous trio of junior Jordie Hughes (Victoria, British Columbia-Spectrum) and seniors Mubarike Chisoni (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe-Chegutu (Lindsey Wilson)) and Boyzzz Khumalo (Soweto, South Africa-Bethlehem (Lindsey Wilson)), who have combined for 90 points this season.
The Chants have a pair of challenging games this weekend, as they travel to participate in the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic in Charleston, S.C. The first game of the weekend will be a Friday night affair, November 5, against #25 South Carolina at 5 p.m. Coastals last game of the regular season will be a Sunday afternoon matinee, Nov. 7, against the host school #22 College of Charleston, at 12 p.m.
