Strong Second Half Pushes Men's Soccer Past North Florida 4-1

CONWAY, S.C. – Powered by four second-half goals, the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team downed North Florida 4-1, here Saturday morning at the CCU Soccer Field. Freshman Kelly Porter (Wichita, Kan./Trinity Academy) netted two goals and senior Kheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson)) added three assists. The Chanticleer defense limited the Ospreys to just five shots in the contest.

 

With the win CCU improves to 8-7-1 on the season, while UNF falls to 7-8-0.

 

UNF netted the only goal of the first half after Martin Schuhte found Adam O’Neil on a long pass in the eighth minute. CCU evened it up after junior Djamel Bekka (Tulsa, Okla./Union) dribbled past two defenders and found the back of the net at 48:07. Senior Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) drained a shot from seven yards out from Dube in the 68th minute to give CCU a 2-1 advantage. Porter added to the Chants’ lead with two goals in the contests final five minutes off assists from Dube and Bekka..

 

Senior Aaron Weant (Morrisville, N.C./Green Hope) recorded one save, while UNF’s Andrew Calise stopped five shots.

 

CCU will return to action Wednesday, Nov. 7 with a Big South Conference contest at Winthrop. The Chants will close the regular season at the CCU Soccer Field, Saturday, Nov. 10 hosting Radford at 11 a.m. The contest was originally scheduled for Nov. 9 at 6 p.m.
