Men's Soccer Hughes Named First-Team Academic All-District

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina University men's senior soccer player Jordie Hughes (Victoria, B.C./Spectrum) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Men's Soccer University First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced this morning, Nov. 3.

Hughes, a marketing major with a grade point average of 3.41, was named to the 2004 Big South All-Academic Team. He currently leads the team with six goals and 17 points and is tied for the team lead with five assists. Hughes is among CCU's all-time greats as he is currently fourth at Coastal with 42 career goals, fifth with 108 points and ninth with 24 assists. Now he advances to the national ballot for Academic All-American honors

Hughes was one of three Big South Conference soccer players on the First Team. The others were junior Michael Lloyd of VMI and senior Patrick Colas of Radford. Radford's senior goalkeeper Omar Zinoveev made the Second Team.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American program. The academic team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or an important reserve with a minimum grade point average of 3.20. Team members are selected by a vote of members of College Sports Information Directors of America within the district.
