More Information:

RADFORD, Va. -- The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team (11-6-2, 6-2-0 Big South) defeated the Bulldogs from UNC Asheville (5-13-0, 2-6-0 Big South) on Thursday, Nov. 2 in the first round of the 2006 Big South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.

In the 36th minute, the Chanticleers took a 1-0 lead when Lachlan Cahill (Kiama, Australia/Kiama) took a diagonal pass from Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson)) and put an angle shot past Bulldog keeper Phillip Horner. The goal was a first this season for Cahill and the seventh assist for Dube.

The Bulldogs answered in the 40th minute when Nate Jones took the ball one-on-one and put the ball past Chanticleer goalie Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) bringing the score to even at 1-1. Wolfgang recorded three saves on the evening and brought his goalie record to 8-3-0 with a total of 47 saves.

Just before the end of the first half, Tim Shaw (Bowling Green, Ky./Greenwood) put the Chants on top scoring the game-winner in the 42nd minute. Shaw put the ball through the posts after it banked off a few players bringing the score to 2-1 where it remained for the duration of the second half.

"We didn’t play well. You’ve got to give UNC Asheville credit for stopping us from creating plays," Head Coach Shaun Docking said. "The Bulldogs have good players and are well coached. We are pleased to advance and look to improve in the next round."

The No. 2 seeded Chants will play No. 6 High Point Friday Nov. 3 at 7:00 pm in the semifinals in Radford, Va.
