Men's Soccer's Van Den Berg Named to Academic All-District Team

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina men's soccer senior Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday morning, Nov. 1. Van Den Berg was an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team selection in 2006.

Van Den Berg, who carries a 3.87 grade point average as a business management and finance double major, was a District III University Division selection. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native currently leads the Big South in assists with eight. He has added three goals for 14 points through 15 games. Van Den Berg was a Big South All-Academic Team honoree in 2006.

The senior recorded two assists as CCU downed Clemson 2-1 in a Halloween night match up at Riggs Field, Oct. 31. The victory over Clemson is just the second in program history. Van Den Berg has also helped the Chanticleers to a perfect 4-0 start in league play.

The Chants will return home to host North Florida (8-8-0), Saturday, Nov. 3, as a part of a doubleheader with the CCU women’s soccer team. The men will host UNF at 11 a.m., and the women will host Radford at 2 p.m.
