Six Chants Earn Men’s Soccer Big South Postseason Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team had six players receive honors from the Big South Conference on Wednesday, Nov.1. Junior midfielder Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula Lindsey Wilson)) was named first team All-Big South while Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthrope (Lander)) and Patrick Robertson (Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands) received second team honors. Named to the All-Freshman team was Jack Belanger (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and Konner McGee (Summerville, S.C./Summerville). Junior Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) was named to the All-Academic Team.

Winthrop swept the Big South men’s soccer yearly honors as forward Saidi Isaac was named the 2006 Player of the Year, while teammate Stephen Nsereko was named the Conference’s Freshman of the Year. Eagles head coach Rich Posipanko was tabbed the Coach of the Year by the League’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Dube, the transfer from Lindsey Wilson, has played in 17 games this season with 12 starts. Dube has netted four goals this season as well as collected six assists. He currently leads in the league in shots and is second in shots per game. Patrick Robertson, the junior defender, has started all 18 games this season and has started in all but three games in his career as a Chanticleer. He has scored three goals this season with one game-winning goal. Luke Ibbetson, the transfer from Lander, has played in 17 games this season with 11 starts and leads the team in goals with nine. Ibbetson is currently tied for first in the Big South in game-winning goals and is fifth in goals.

Kevin Van Den Berg, named to the All-Academic Team, has amassed a cumulative grade-point average of 3.86 and in a double-major, majoring in both business management and finance. He was named to the dean’s list in 2005 and is part of the Wall Fellows Program. He has played in seventeen games this season and collected seven goals.

All-Freshman Team honoree Jack Belanger has played in 14 games with 12 starts and has been a key player in a Coastal defense that has recorded six shutouts this season and a 1.38 goals against average. Konner McGee, has played in 14 games with seven starts and has taken two shots with one being on goal.
