Men's Soccer Tops High Point 1-0 in Double-Overtime Win

CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team (10-6-2, 5-2-0 Big South) defeated the Panthers from High Point (5-10-3, 3-4-0 Big South) 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 28.

With only 32 seconds left in the second overtime period redshirt freshman Tim Shaw (Bowling Green, Ky./Greenwood) flicked the ball past a Panther defender to junior Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla/St. John's County (Queen's University of Charlotte)) who shot the ball far post for the only score and the win. The goal was the first for Holstein this season.

The shots were even with both teams taking a total of 13 with Adam Ross from High Point collecting three saves. In goal for the Chants was senior Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) recorded four saves in the constest bringing his season total to 44.

This was the final time the five Coastal seniors would play at home at the CCU Soccer Field. On Senior Day the five seniors, Jeremy Wolfgang, Bobby Zimmer (Sugarland, Texas/Clements), Craig Reed (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), Luke Ibbetson (York, England/Millthrope (Lander)), Bogdan Grechka (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy (Herkimer CC)), were honored before the game for their contribution to the program.

This win moves the Chanticleers up to No. 2 seed going into the Big South Tournament which is being held on the campus of Radford University in Radford, Va. The 2006 Big South Men’s Soccer Championship begins Thursday, Nov. 2 with four games, and concludes with the Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 5. The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
