Coastal Carolinas Jordie Hughes (Victoria, British Columbia-Spectrum) was selected today (Oct. 26) by the Big South Conference as the Mens Soccer Player of the Week. Hughes is the third Coastal soccer player to be honored as Player of the Week by the Big South. Senior Mubarike Chisoni (Bulwayo, Zimbabwe-Chegtu (Lindsey Wilson)) was named on Sept. 7 and fellow senior Boyzzz Khumalo (Soweto, South Africa-Bethlehem (Lindsey Wilson)) was named for the week ending Sept. 13.
The junior forward had a terrific game in Coastals 5-0 conference win over VMI on Saturday, Oct. 23. Hughes had a hand in all three first half goals. He scored the first goal off the feed from Khumalo in the first four minutes and assisted on senior midfielder Randy Owens goal (Columbia, S.C.-Irmo (Francis-Marion)) eight minutes later. He then tallied the third goal of the afternoon, and his second goal of the game, unassisted off a team save from VMI.
Hughes is currently tied for 10th nationally in assists per game at 0.60. His nine assists place him fourth nationally in total assists. Hughes is also second on the team with seven goals this season, which is the eighth highest total in the conference.
The Chanticleers will next take the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 30, in a road conference match against Winthrop beginning at 7 p.m.
