Melchor Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week
New Orleans - Coastal Carolina’s Martin Melchor has received the Sun Belt’s Offensive Player of the Week honor for his play during last week’s play for the Chanticleers.
The Jacksonville, Texas native had a hand in three of the four goals CCU scored last week in the team’s two wins.
His assist to Henrik Muller in overtime against Appalachian State led to the match winner in the 2-1 win. He also assisted in both goals against Howard in Saturday’s 2-0 win. Both of his assists went to Frantzdy Pierrot, one in the 84th minute and the second in the 86th as CCU pulled away late for the win.
Melchor now leads the team in assists with four and he is second on the team in total points with 12.
He becomes the second Chanticleer to win the weekly offensive honor and it is the fourth time overall this season a Chanticleer has received a weekly award from the Sun Belt Conference.
The Chants are 5-1-2 in their past eight matches and will make a cross-country flight this weekend when they play the Bruins of UCLA Saturday, Oct. 29 in Los Angeles at 7 p.m. (ET).
