Chants Back Home and Back in the Rankings

Oct. 23, 2017

Conway - It has been an up and down season for the Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team, and as the season winds down the Chanticleers find themselves moving up.

The Chants are preparing for their final two home matches of the season and will enter Tuesday’s contest against William and Mary on a season-long, three-match winning streak, with the last of those two wins coming against ranked teams.

Those road wins over ranked teams have found the Chanticleers once again ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation as they come in ranked 24th in the latest TopDrawer Soccer poll. CCU started out the season ranked as high as 22nd and the latest ranking is the first time since the middle of September the Chants find themselves in the rankings.

During the recent three-match winning streak, the Chants have been bolstered by the return of senior midfielder Louis Dargent. His experience and leadership has brought some stability to the Chants midfield which has helped on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field. He has started all three of the matches, after missing the first nine matches due to injury.

His return has not only seen CCU win three consecutive, but the Chants have only allowed two goals, while scoring seven, and picking up two shutouts.

Tuesday’s match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday’s match will see CCU jump back into Sun Belt action when they host Appalachian State on Homecoming Saturday. The match will also be Senior Day as 12 seniors will be introduced and honored 15 minutes before the 1 p.m. start time.
