Junior Jordie Hughes (Victoria, British Columbia/Spectrum) and senior Mubarike Chisoni (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe-Chegtu (Lindsey Wilson)) each scored a pair of goals and senior Randy Owen (Columbia, S.C./Irmo (Francis Marion)) added a goal to give CCU (8-6-1 2-3 Big South) a conference victory over VMI on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va.
Coastal would strike early when Hughes took the feed from Boyzzz Khumalo (Soweto, South Africa/Bethlehem (Lindsey Wilson)) and put the ball past the left of the VMI goalkeeper Thomas Upton (3:34) for the first goal of the afternoon.
Owen would get into the scoring off the Hughes feed (11:52) to corner of the goal, to give Coastal a 2-0 lead.
CCU would continue the scoring onslaught as Hughes tallied his second goal of the afternoon on a rebound off a team save (23:29) to give the Chanticleers a 3-0 lead. For Hughes it was his seventh goal of the season.
The score would remain 3-0 until late in the second half, when Chisoni would tally his first goal of the afternoon (72:23) off a penalty kick.
Chisoni would score again less then five minutes later (76:40) off a rebounded shot for the 5-0 final margin of victory. For Chisoni it was his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
Chants goalkeeper Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson) got his second win and his first shutout of the season in the Coastal victory.
The Chants dominated the shots at 19-8 including 5-0 in shots on goal. VMI held 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
CCU will next take the pitch on Sat., Oct. 30, as it travels to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on conference rival Winthrop at 7 p.m.
