College Soccer News - Top 30 National Poll Week Ending October, 13, 2013

CONWAY - After winning a pair of games last week to improve its overall record to 9-2-0, the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team occupies the number six slot in the latest College Soccer News Top-30 National Poll. In addition, forward Ricky Garbanzo earned his first Big South Conference Attacking Player of the Week honor after leading Coastal with three goals in the two of wins.

The national ranking is the highest in program and Big South Conference history. The Chants', and Big South's, previous high was a two-week stint at No. 8 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll last season.

Garbanzo, a junior from Rock Hill, S.C., scored three goals, leading the Chanticleers to their 2-0 record last week. He got his week started with a pair of scores in Coastal Carolina's 3-0 win over the College of Charleston on Oct. 8. Two days later at VMI, Garbanzo connected on the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute as Coastal went on to the 2-0 win.

Garbanzo now has five goals on the season, tying him as CCU's second leading scorer with freshman Sergio Camargo. Of his five goals, three have proven to be the decisive game-winning strike.

Eleven games into the season the Chanticleers have shown a true balance between being an offensive and defensive team. Coastal currently ranks 19th in the NCAA with a 2.0 goals per game average, while ranking 10th with a 0.55 shutout percentage.

Nine different Chants have found the back of the net this season as Coastal has amassed 22 total goals. Additionally, 12 players have also recorded a point via a goal or an assist.

The Chanticleers put their record-setting 23 game Big South Conference regular season winning streak on the line twice this week. First, CCU travels to Palmetto state rival Winthrop on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Chants then return home on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match against Radford. Both matches will be stream live on the Big South Network presented by State Farm.
