Men's Soccer Earns 2-0 Win at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Coastal Carolina men’s soccer team collected the seventh win of the season with a 2-0 victory over the host Keydets from VMI, Oct. 14. The Chanticleers brought their overall record to 7-6-2 and their Big South Conference record to 2-2-0, while VMI fell to 2-11-1 and 0-5 in the Big South.

Junior Patrick Robertson (Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands) put the Chanticleers on the board late in the first half, scoring on a header off a corner kick from sophomore Djamel Bekka (Tulsa, Okla./Union), bringing the score to 1-0 in the 44th minute.

In the 67th minute junior Mkhokheli Dube (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe/Pumula (Lindsey Wilson) scored the second goal of the contest when he took a cross in front of the net from junior Robert Holstein (Middleburg, Fla/St. John’s County (Queen’s University of Charlotte)) to put the Chants up 2-0.

The Chants outshot the Keydets 23-8. Ten of the Chanticleer shots were on goal with Keydet goaltender Thomas Upton collecting eight saves. Dube took eight of the 23 shots on the day while junior Kevin Van Den Berg (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) took four. In goal for the Chants was senior Jeremy Wolfgang (Reading, Pa./Wilson), who moved his record to 6-3-0 and collected his third shutout of the season and his second shutout in his career against VMI.

The Chants will continue conference play and return home this week to take on Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in Conway at the CCU Soccer Field.
