CONWAY - Coastal Carolina men's soccer freshman Tevin Skyers has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Freshmen in the country by Top Drawer Soccer, the publication announced today.
Skyers, who is rated 54th in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer, joins Chanticleer senior and fellow Jamaican Ashton Bennett on one of Top Drawer Soccer's top 100 lists. Bennett is rated as the 15th-best upperclassman by the publication
Skyers has proven to be a dangerous striker for the Chants over the opening 13 matches of his rookie campaign, helping Coastal to a 10-1-2 overall mark and a No. 12 national ranking. Skyers plays a pivotal part in the vaunted Chanticleer attack that ranks fifth in the NCAA in total goals (30) and ninth in total points (88).
A starter in six of 13 games played, Skyers has netted a trio of goals on just 12 shots on frame. Skyers notched his first collegiate goal on a header in the 40th minute against UNC Greensboro. He then cemented Coastal's 2-1 win over the Spartans with seven-yard strike in the 65th minute. Three days later he scored his third of the season in Coastal's 3-1 romp over traditional Southern Conference power College of Charleston.
Skyers' three goals are tied for third on the team, while his .500 shots on goal percentage trails only Justin Portillo's .556 and Bennett's .525 clips.
Skyers and the Chanticleers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 at VMI. Kickoff from the Keydets' Patchin Field is slated for 2 p.m.
